Art Association launches new season

On October 3, The Needham Art Association launched its 2017-2018 season with an acrylic demonstration by renowned artist Maris Platais.

Established in 1949, the art association's stated purpose was to encourage and further the arts and art education in the community, dispelling the notion that art is not only for (or by)a select few, but for everyone. It continues in that mission today through a monthly program that includes demonstrations by well recognized artists, art talks, hands-on activities and plein air events. Membership is open to all, and member artists include professional working artists, graphic designers, art educators, art students, "Sunday Painters" and the self-taught.

Each spring, the Needham Art Association provides a monetary award to a deserving High School senior who intends to continue his or her education in art. In its goal of sharing the work of its many talented artists with the public, NAA holds at least two judged shows, as well as rotating exhibits in various venues in and around Needham. During the months of November and December, the Needham Library will host the Needham Art Association Fall Exhibit in its main floor gallery.

Monthly meetings, which are free and open to the public, take place at 7:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month from October to May in the Community Room of the Needham Public Library.
