Hot Dogs and Cornhole! Who doesn’t love them?

For the past couple of Wednesdays, crowds have gathered at the Needham Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2498 on 20 Junction Street. They were there to join in “Weiner Wednesday” where folks are welcomed to the Post and enjoy a hot dog, chips, and a drink for only $5.00. The dogs are served from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. All proceeds go to help Needham’s Veteran’s community.

The Post also launched an indoor Corn Hole League on June 2 and that will also run for the next three Wednesdays. Both the Corn Hole and the Weiner Wednesday events have been well attended, and people can meet and talk with Veterans and tour the function hall.
These events are the brainchild of three friends; Stacey Giancioppo, Kate Robey and Barrielynn Wise, who put their heads together a few weeks ago because, as Stacy said, “We wanted to connect our beloved veterans with the community.” Stacey and Kate thought of the Weiner Wednesday idea, and Barrielynne thought Corn Hole would be a fun activity. Both events will run on Wednesdays till July 1st.

All three women are connected to veterans. Stacey’s dad is a US Navy Veteran,  Kate’s uncle, US Army Lieutenant Alan Perrault died in combat during the Vietnam War, and Lynne’s father Lynwood (Lennie) Hamilton, a former Needham Police Officer, was the VFW Post banquet and facilities manager for years, until his passing.

The VFW Post has been serving the Needham community since 1932, providing hundreds of dollars for student scholarships each year, fund raising for local sports teams, supporting the Needham Police and Fire Honor Guards, visiting schools to share their military experiences, and honoring those veterans who are remembered on the monument at Memorial Park.

During the COVID 19 Crisis, the Post acted as a distribution center for food and supplies from the Commonwealth to help those who could not leave their homes. The Post has a function hall that seats 180, full free WIFI, and bar service, and a full kitchen. A small lounge next to the entrance is open to the public and is a no smoking area, as is the function hall.

If you like hotdogs and like to play corn hole, come down to the VFW Post the next couple of Wednesdays.
