On Super Tuesday, Medfield voters took to the polls to vote on who the Democrats and Republicans should nominate for this fall’s presidential election. Republican voters chose Donald Trump and Democrats chose Hillary Clinton, but both by slim margins.
The 2,206 Republican voters picked Trump out of the crowded field. He received an even 700 votes and won Precincts 1 and 4, but was only ahead of Ohio governor John Kasich by 31 total votes. Kasich won Precincts 2 and 3.
Florida senator Marco Rubio was third among Republicans, receiving 583 total votes and finishing third in each of the four precincts. Texas senator Ted Cruz was a distant fourth in Medfield with 162 total votes.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won all but one precinct (Precinct 4) and finished with 1,255 of the 2,437 Democrat votes. Vermont senator Bernie Sanders was second with 1,143 votes. He won Precinct 4 by a 288-283 margin.
Statewide, Clinton also won and by a similarly small margin. Across Massachusetts, Clinton won 50.1 percent of the vote, while Sanders won 48.7 percent.
Trump was the winner among state Republicans. The business-man received 49.3 percent of the votes in Massachusetts with a sizable edge over Kasich and Rubio, who each received eight percent. Cruz finished in fourth with four percent.
Heading out of Super Tuesday, Trump and Clinton remain the front-runners for their party’s nomination, although there are still a number of delegates still left up for grabs ahead of the nominating conventions.
