The Medfield Council on Aging kicked off summer with their event, “Welcome to Summer” Cookout. Seniors gathered at The Center at Medfield to enjoy hot dogs, macaroni salad, beans, chips, coleslaw and ice cream sandwiches in honor of the official start of summer.
Before dinner was served, guests were invited to partake in cocktail hour where drinks and appetizers were offered.
Entertainment for this event was provided by the musical group, The Elderly Brothers. After indulging in a delicious meal, seniors could be found on the dance floor, swinging along to music from the ‘50s and ‘60s.
All in attendance were thrilled with how the event turned out and had smiles from ear to ear. COA director, Sarah Hanifan, was hard at work making sure all the seniors had the best time. In regards to this event, she stated, “Our sponsor for today was BrightStar Care. They came in and did a little giveaway and talked about their services. We had amazing volunteers tonight who served dinner to all of our guests. Everybody seems to be having a really good time. This is our first ‘Welcome to Summer’ event and we had a really good turnout. 60 people signed up for it which was our max capacity. We have a full house!”
One attendee mentioned how she absolutely loves events like these because they keep her moving. She has been a dancer for many years so she loves to take any chance she gets to get back out on the dance floor. She explained just how important it is for seniors to keep moving and enjoy each other’s company. Events like these are the perfect way to do so so she hopes they continue to happen down the road.
Overall this exciting start of summer party was a major success in which seniors enjoyed the company of one another and danced the night away. Here’s to a great summer ahead!
