For the second straight year, Medfield native Uzo Aduba brought home an Emmy. On Sunday night, she won for Best Supporting Actress, Drama for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in the popular Netflix series, “Orange Is the New Black.”
Last year, Aduba was given the Emmy for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for the same role.
She gave a tearful speech on stage in which she thanked all of her friends, family, and other cast members. In particular, Aduba thanked her sister Chioma, who had joined her at the awards show, for her friendship and support.
Aduba said, “I really just want to say thank you for my family, who have stood beside me my entire life... I am humbled to call myself your sister. I love you so much.”
In an interview with Hometown Weekly before last year’s awards show, Aduba said, “I am forever indebted to [creator and executive producer] Jenji Kohan because I had done one day of TV work and I’m so grateful to her for taking a chance on me.”
