The Col. William McIntosh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)  recently held a ceremony at the Needham Historical Society to present its annual Good Citizen Awards to five local high school students.

The chapter winner was Medfield High student Andrea Nevins. She was joined by fellow award recipients McKenzie Carver of Medway High, Elizabeth Ryan of Tri-County, Jessica O’Reilly of Millis High, and John McLaughlin of St. Sebastian’s.

The Good Citizen Awards are given out each year to students who are selected by the faculty and student bodies of each school for “demonstrating unparalleled qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.”

This the second year in a row that a student from Medfield High has been declared the chapter winner, according to a notice from the DAR. The awards were presented by Chapter Vice Regent Anna Deignan.

As the chapter winner, Nevins will have her essay sent for judging at the state level.

Prior to the awards being given out, the DAR hosted historical novelist Dory Codington, who gave a presentation on “Tea, The Wicked Weed.”
