USA Gymnastics named Coach Levon Karakhanyan, Medfield resident and owner of Millis’ Massachusetts Elite Gymnastics Academy (MEGA), the Head Coach for the 2017 RD761 Junior International Team Cup. Karakhanyan will lead the five-man squad of 13-14 year olds against teams from Australia, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Great Britain and Japan.
MEGA athlete Ian Lasic-Ellis of Dover will represent the U.S. on the Junior National Team and is joined by gymnasts from Arizona, Florida, Illinois and Texas. The 2017 RD761 will be held at the Leonard Merrell Center on January 20 and 21 in Katy, TX.
This assignment follows Coach Karakhanyan’s post as coach for Houry Gebeshian, an Armenian gymnast in the 2016 Rio Olympics, and MEGA’s selection on Dec. 8 as one of two clubs for the 2017 USA Gymnastics Trampoline Development Center program.
Karakhanyan has been coaching in the U.S. since 2000 and opened a training facility on Route 109 in Millis next to Ann & Hope over the summer.
