With April Vacation over and summer right around the corner, registration is now open and available for Hinkley Swim Pond and assorted activities that happen at the Pond.

Memberships are now available for purchase for the summer. Family memberships, which include all immediate family members in your household, is $75 for Medfield residents and $150 for non-residents. Other membership options include individual resident ($40), individual non-resident ($75) and daily guest fee ($5 per person per day, payable at the Pond).

A membership entitles the holder to a 25% discount on swim lessons all summer long. Lessons are offered daily during the week (Monday – Friday) from 11 - 11:30 a.m. or 11:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. The lessons are offered for Level 1 (beginner), Level 2 (fundamental aquatic skills) and Level 3 (stroke development). Lessons start the week of July 4 and registration is available online. Registrations are not accept at the Pond.

Hinkley Swim Pond is scheduled to open for the season on Saturday, June 18 (weather dependent), and will be staffed through Saturday, August 20. It will be open daily from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Staff at the Pond include lifeguards, aides and supervisors. There will be a snack stand offering cold beverages, ice cream and other snacks for purchase. The water at the Pond is tested daily and treated on a schedule to keep the water clean and safe for all to enjoy. The process of opening the Pond will begin next month, with the help of the town DPW. It will be completely drained, dredged, and filled with Cape Cod sand to bring the beach back to life.

The Medfield Marlins summer swim team will also be starting soon. The Marlins swim team is open to Medfield youth aged 5-18. Karen O’Connell and Michelle Pound, two very talented coaches, will be returning. They not only bring a ton of enthusiasm to the team, but both have a wealth of knowledge and experience with aquatics and the Marlins.

The Marlins participate in the Summer Suburban Swim League and there are typically two meets per week, held on Tuesday or Thursday evenings starting at 5 p.m., and home meets are held at Hinkley Swim Pond. Daily practices are held at the Pond at 10 a.m. Pool practices are also offered in the evening at the Dedham Recreation Pool.

The fee to participate on the swim team is $199, but members of the Pond will receive 25% off that price at checkout. The fee includes all the meets, regionals and team practices, both at the Pond and at the Dedham pool. The fee does not include a swimsuit or swim cap, but information on how to purchase those will be provided at the orientation meeting (date to be announced).

More information is available in the Pond’s summer brochure, available to pick up at the Pfaff Center or Town Hall. Updates are available at www.medfieldrec.com for Hinkley Pond and www.medfieldmarlins.org for swim team information, including this summer’s meet schedule.
