The end of the school year is an undoubtedly exciting time for Medfield High’s seniors. Between committing to a college or making plans for post-graduation life, getting ready for prom, and, of course, preparing to walk at graduation, the class of 2018 seems to be equally as busy as they are nostalgic.
To add to the sentimentalism of graduating high school, the Hannah Adams Women’s Club invited Medfield High’s senior girls to the Senior Girls Graduation Tea, a longstanding tradition in town.
This year’s tea, hosted at the Cronin family’s home on May 29, provided over one hundred of the graduating senior girls with the opportunity to experience a tea party, interact and reminisce with their classmates, and become a part of Medfield tradition.
While the girls of the graduating class are, of course, different each year, Susan Geller Leavitt, a graduate of Medfield High School’s class of 1970, revealed that the tradition itself has not changed much over its 48 years. When she was a graduating senior, all of the girls wore their finest dresses with white gloves to the tea, but the purpose has remained the same.
“It’s a very elegant thing that the club does for the senior girls,” she said. “It’s a nice send-off for them because the majority will be leaving Medfield. Aside from graduation, this may be the last time that they’re ever together.”
The Hannah Adams Women’s Club also serves the community by raising money throughout the year to provide scholarships for high school seniors.
“The girls look so gorgeous,” commented Ginnie Cusack, who joined the Hannah Adams Women’s Club in 1969. “They’re beautiful girls – every one of them. I love talking to the girls and finding out where everybody’s going. They’re all flying off! California, Michigan, Wisconsin, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida…”
As many of Medfield High’s senior girls would be leaving the state for school in the next few months, the Senior Girls Graduation Tea proved to be an invaluable time for them to spend time together as the class of 2018 and celebrate each other’s accomplishments.
