An opening reception for the Zullo Gallery's 29th Annual Juried Exhibition was held on Saturday, September 30, in Medfield. A large crowd gathered at the opening, viewing the art works, meeting up with friends, and enjoying refreshments. The outdoor patio was open and decorated with purple lights. Driving music at the door set the stage for an enlightening evening.
The Annual Juried Exhibition will run until November 4. Out of 270 pieces of art submitted, 81 paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, and mixed media pieces were selected by juror Nancy Deveno to appear in the exhibition. The 74 artists that were presented reside in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Virginia.
Walking through the room, one was inspired by the eclectic works, remarkable talent, and various media represented. Solstice by Jason Sawtelle was a vibrant panel of lifelike, detailed feathers. Chipping Sparrow by Judith Robichaud depicted a realistic scene of an everyday event, but it was elevated with exquisite grace and beauty. Seascape by Lauren Anzivino suggested an underwater scene with bright colors, strokes, and lines. Rothko Fantasy by Rani Sarin, a mixed media piece, glowed alone in its own corner with lovely golden and orange tones. Skaket by Betsy Van Oot dominated a large wall with a Cape Cod beach scene from our dreams. R2-D2 by Eddie Bruckner brightened the room with primary colors, a fun and familiar character, and bold lines. Red Sea by Damon Burnard commanded attention with its repetition and earthy, red hue.
