Early in the morning, on Sunday, December 28 Sherborn firefighters responded to a building fire on Colonel Isaac Way. A Sherborn Police officer on routine patrol first reported the blaze.
Upon arrival, crews found a large, two-story, three-car detached garage fully involved in fire. Several vehicles inside were also fully engulfed. Heavy fire was beginning to spread to a nearby large residential duplex.
Due to the volume of fire and the imminent threat to the duplex, a 2nd Alarm was struck. This brought in multiple mutual aid departments from Ashland, Millis, Dover, Norfolk, Framingham, Holliston, Medfield, Natick, Hopkinton, Medway, Hopedale, and Upton to assist with fire suppression and establish a water supply via a tanker shuttle. Wayland Fire provided station coverage.
Firefighters made a strategic decision to focus first on protecting the exposure duplex building, successfully preventing any damage to it. They then attacked the main garage fire using multiple hose lines and a portable deck gun.
After the heavy fire was knocked down, extensive overhaul was required. Firefighters were still on scene working after 3.5 hours.
The garage is a total loss, with an estimated property and contents loss of $400,000. There were no injuries reported to residents or firefighters.
The fire is under investigation by the Sherborn Fire Department, the Massachusetts Fire District 14 Investigation Team, and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Fire Marshal's Office, which is standard protocol for a fire of this magnitude.
