On Friday, April 15, all students at the Dover-Sherborn Middle School came together to participate in the first annual “Raiders Rock” event. The event, sponsored by the DSMS Peer Leadership Club, was a school-wide 1-mile walk/run/roll for DSMS students, faculty and staff.
The goal of the event was to encourage a healthy lifestyle for all DSMS students, display a sense of school community and inclusion and promote a fun activity that is substance free. There were t-shirts for all, music and a big banner for all to sign as they finish their walk/run/roll. Thanks to the Peer Leadership Club, the whole school enjoyed a beautiful afternoon celebrating health and exercise.
The DSMS Peer Leadership Club is a group of about twenty seventh and eighth graders that focuses primarily on leadership skills, drug and alcohol prevention activities and ways to inspire peers to lead a healthy lifestyle.
When asked what she likes most about the Peer Leadership Club, member Mary Jo Smith responded, “I like how we are a community and we are all friends. We are involving the D-S community in making a difference and doing the right thing. We are also promoting a heart-healthy lifestyle.”
Smith also said the she was hoping that kids will get engaged in the Raiders Rock event Friday and want to run, roll or walk this one mile in order to be active and keep their hearts healthy.
She said, “It shows the importance of this type of exercise.”
