Longtime Dover DPW employee retires

After more than four decades of service to the Town of Dover, longtime Department of Public Works employee Robert "Bobo" Beckwith retired in July, bringing to a close a career defined by dependability, hard work and a commitment to the community.

A Dover native, Beckwith spent his entire life in the town. He started his municipal career in July 1983 at Highland Cemetery, where he worked under his uncle, George Scholz. Five years later, he transferred to the Highway Department, and in 1989 he also began serving the community as an on-call firefighter.

During his career, Beckwith earned a reputation as someone who could handle just about any task. From maintaining roads and repairing mailboxes to clearing snow, assisting at the Transfer Station, supporting cemetery operations and helping residents with a variety of needs, he was known for stepping in wherever help was needed.

Colleagues said Beckwith's strong work ethic, willingness to assist others and familiarity with the town made him an essential part of the Department of Public Works for more than 40 years.

His decades of service helped maintain Dover's infrastructure and contributed to the quality of life enjoyed by residents. As he begins retirement, town officials expressed their appreciation for his years of dedication and wished him all the best in the years ahead.
