Even with a well problem shutting down the water inside of Sherborn’s Pilgrim Church, both the holiday spirit and the spirit of giving flowed freely throughout the Sherborn Council on Aging’s Senior Holiday Party on Thursday afternoon.
Holiday music played and food was served, but while the meal was tasty and the music festive, it was the raffle prizes that got the seniors most excited.
Lining the back of the room was a collection of donated gifts that could be won, free of cost, by the lunch’s attendees. This led to a palpable excitement as attendees eagerly checked their ticket numbers to see if they had won something.
However, the real excitement started after the winners were announced.
Rather than raffle each prize individually, winners were allowed to choose which of the prizes they wanted to keep. This led to a strange bit of tension, and a couple of questionable decisions under pressure. What were the most coveted prizes?
To Libby Yon, who was reading the winning ticket numbers the answer was clear: alcohol and technology.
“The wine collection was the number one pick,” she said. “The one that had the Echo Dot was highly coveted by the technologically adept, and then the table decorations were also very popular.”
Although they were not eligible for any prizes, the Sherborn police and fire squads also made an appearance and mingled with the seniors of Sherborn, which was greatly appreciated.“It was wonderful that the police and fire squads were able to join the festivities and that officials from the town office were also able to join us,” explained Yon. “A good time was had by all.”
A good time was indeed had by all.
But the best time was had by the seniors who went home with prizes
