As the last band of the season, crowd-favorite and hometown band Eddy’s Shoe appeared in the Dover Summer Concert Series on July 31, to the delight of a large crowd of spectators and music fans. The band set up behind the Dover Town House, on the town green. On the hot and muggy night, the crowd settled in with treats from Chub’s ice cream truck, while the band gave it all on the stage.

As families arrived for the concert, children, seemingly oblivious to the extreme heat, raced to the section of the common near Route 16 to play with equipment provided by Knucklebones. They each seemed to target a piece to play with, as they raced to the area. The play equipment included stilts, animals to bounce on, contemporary see-saws, and a tiny rollercoaster, among many other adorable options.

The Chub’s Ice Cream truck parked near the play area, and it offered a dazzling array of nostalgia-inducing novelties, such as Bomb Pops, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cones, snow cones, and multiple characters with gumball eyes!

The talented members of Eddy’s Shoe included Phil Thisse of Dover on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Dave Porter of Needham on lead guitar and vocals, Oliver Hammerle of Dover on drums, McGreger Mghee on bass and vocals, and Jim Cribby of Millis on keyboards. For 31 years, this accomplished band has been offering its blues, rock, reggae, R&B, and jam band sound in the local area, the North Shore, and Rhode Island. In Dover, they created a strong groove to start each song and built it with great lead vocals and harmony, a solid beat, and fantastic, energy-filled solos on lead guitar, bass, and keyboards.

Eddy’s Shoe played a range of songs, including “How Sweet It Is to Be Loved by You” by Marvin Gaye, “I Wish Those Days Could Come Back Once More” by Stevie Wonder, and an upbeat, positive original by Phil Thisse, “Summertime.”
