The Dover Sherborn Educational Fund (DSEF) has awarded more than $150,000 in grants to the Public Schools of Dover and Sherborn for the 2018 – 2019 school year. Each of the four schools in the system, the high school, middle school, Pine Hill and Chickering, received funds to support grants authored by educators. Funded grants include art and music, science, and technology initiatives; health and wellness and cultural enrichment; as well as core academic curricula.

Specific programs funded this academic year include the creation of an Outdoor Wellness Instruction and Play Space at Chickering, equipment for the creation of a Pine Hill Library of Things, the World of Difference Peer Training program at DSHS, Proficiency Academy training at DSMS to build upon the new language curriculum at Chickering and Pine Hill. Also funded are speakers and traveling museum exhibits for Social Studies, an in school Day of Poetry, World Cultures Day, and other programs.

DSEF grants will also enable the expansion of Professional Knowledge in College Counseling, a Google augmented reality program for both elementary schools, as well as DSMS; Science Lock Boxes, the launch of the DSHS Raiders Pep Band, and books for Pine Hill’s Loving Literacy initiative.

Grants by DSEF will also continue to support the innovative Challenge Success program as it enters its fifth year in all DS schools, as well as the DSHS Global Competency Certificate program, and many other programs and initiatives.

“We are grateful for the ongoing support we receive both from families and from businesses within our community. It is this generosity that enables us to support our teachers and continue to fund programs that enhance the education of all Dover-Sherborn students,” said Kristina Grace, DSEF co-president.

For more than thirty years DSEF, a private, volunteer, non-profit organization, has raised more than $3 million for the DS Schools. Funds have been used to enhance art, science and technology programs, athletics, and cultural enrichment, as well as core academic curriculum.

“In addition to academic programs, DSEF recognizes the importance of funding leadership and cultural awareness programs, as well as initiatives that teach emotional health and resilience and provide our students with the skills they need to thrive,” said Sarah O’Connell, DSEF co-president.

DSEF conducts two major fundraisers annually – the Fall Gala and the February phonathon. For more information or to contribute, visit www.dsef.com.
