The Dover Foundation, an independent, non-profit, all-volunteer organization that has served the Dover community since 1947, has announced this year’s scholarship awards and community grants.
The Foundation, which promotes community spirit and service, is best known for its yearly outstanding theatrical productions held in Dover featuring many Dover citizens. Recent productions have included “Oliver,” “Pirates of Penzance,” “Guys and Dolls,” and “Rumors.”
Nine Dover High School students applied for and were awarded scholarships. This year’s recipients are Lauren Bapista, Sophie Charron, Carina Krusell, Sarah Levinson, Brett Anthony Melican, Max Schuermann, Hannah Thompson, Amy Ursitti, and Lauren Waite.
The applicants were very impressive in a variety of ways, many with accomplishments in the arts and local theater, including the Dover Foundation. As in past years, many factors were considered including academic achievement, need, involvement with the arts, other extracurricular activities including sports, the student’s letter, community service, and the student’s expected personal contribution to his/her college costs.
In addition to the scholarship awards, the Dover Foundation awarded three community grants: to the Dover Sherborn Youth Baseball and Softball to support the purchase of equipment for the Little League Teams; to Dover Legion Post 209 to support the 4th Annual Music Fest, held on June 2nd; and to Dover Sherborn High School to support the replacement of a new wireless sound system in Mudge Auditorium.
The Dover Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that raises money for the purpose of awarding scholarships to deserving Dover high school students as well as awarding grants to the Dover community. Since its founding, the Dover Foundation has awarded over $600,000.
