The Chicatabot Garden Club will host a lecture and demonstration on the art and science of bonsai on Tuesday, December 13 at the Dover Town Library, Lower Level. There will be coffee at 9:00 a.m., and the program will begin at 9:30.
This introduction to bonsai design is a one-hour demonstration illustrating the basics of bonsai care, design and technique. The first part of the lecture will be a brief discussion about care, history and basic techniques. It will be followed by a hands-on bonsai demonstration in which nursery stock is transformed into bonsai. Questions and audience participation are both welcome and encouraged.
The event’s speaker, Teddi Scobi, and her husband, Hitoshi Kanegae, established New England Bonsai Gardens in 1987 and have been offering workshops, lectures and demonstrations ever since. They have built their business, New England Bonsai Gardens, by offering healthy, beautiful bonsai and cultivating lasting relationships with world class bonsai growers and artists in this country and in Japan. Many residents may remember them from when they were at Lookout Farm many years ago. Their eight acre nursery in Bellingham was recognized by Yankee Magazine and featured at length on Martha Stewart’s blog in 2015. Teddi has lectured and presented bonsai workshops at Wellesley College, Nagoya Gakuin University Japan, MIT, The Cambridge Center for Adult Education, Mass. Hort. and the New England Spring Flower Show, among others.
All are welcome to attend, free of charge.
