On Tuesday, March 13, at 9:30 a.m., the Chicatabot Garden Club invites the public to hear about the Museum of Fine Arts’ Art In Bloom in the comfort of the Dover Library Community Room. Michelle Lord will give a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the 40 year history of this annual, extremely popular event at the Museum, which this year will take place from April 27–30.
Each year, the MFA selects specific works of art for attention. These are then partnered with complementary floral arrangement designed by selected area garden clubs. The Chicatabot Garden Club has often participated in this event. This year’s Road Show will highlight the design created last year by Jinny Leonard and her assistant, Dorothy Boylan. There is significant competition among clubs to be selected for participation; the Chicatabot Garden Club is sadly on the waiting list for this year. But in the inimitable words of the wife of a local “hero,” “We must give others a chance to win sometimes…”
Michelle Lord is a senior associate on the MFA’s Art In Bloom Committee, and as such, participates in the selection of the 50 art works chosen. She is also currently the chair of the Art In Bloom Roadshow. Lord will survey the variety of art works chosen, discuss the rules regarding interpretation, creation and display of the accompanying floral designs as well as highlighting winners from previous seasons. There is a wide variety of art represented, including paintings, sculpture and other significant artifacts. The ultimate relationship between the art and the accompanying flower arrangements is often magical, and always a very creative work of art itself.
The public is invited to attend free of charge. Coffee will be served at 9:00 a.m.
