Caps Off to WHS Class of 2026

On a recent warm, partly cloudy Sunday in June, the 152nd Walpole High School commencement ceremony took place on the grounds of the Common Street school. Hundreds gathered at Turco Field to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2026.

Despite a few minor audio issues that were quickly corrected - and one particularly loud helicopter that circled overhead for several minutes, prompting Principal Stephen Imbusch to jokingly remark, “Someone get me the license plate of that aircraft” - the ceremony served as a fitting tribute to the graduating class. The event featured music from the WHS Concert Band, recognition of scholarship and award recipients, and heartfelt speeches from student speakers reflecting on their time at Walpole High School.

While the event was filled with celebration, it also included a moment of reflection and remembrance. Members of the Class of 2026 took part in commencement without their classmate, Veronica Fay Consoli, who passed away unexpectedly on May 18.

Before diplomas were awarded, Principal Imbusch took a moment to honor Veronica and acknowledge her place within the graduating class.

“As we celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2026, we do so while carrying the profound sadness of losing a classmate and friend, Veronica Consoli,” Imbusch said. “Today should have been one of the many milestones Veronica was preparing to celebrate. She would have walked across this stage to receive her diploma, and her absence is deeply felt by all.

“Our hearts remain with Veronica’s family, friends, classmates, and everyone whose lives were touched by her kindness, spirit, and presence. While we cannot replace the loss that is felt today, we can ensure that Veronica remains a part of this ceremony and a part of the story of the Class of 2026.”

Following the awarding of diplomas, graduates took part in another longstanding commencement tradition: moving their tassels from the right side to the left to signify the completion of their high school education. They then participated in the traditional cap toss as family members and friends looked on with pride.

Congratulations to the Walpole High School Class of 2026.
