The extraordinarily popular Summer Concert series, sponsored by the Westwood Young Women’s Club (WYWC), has recently concluded for the season. The series of three concerts were held at the grassy area surrounding the gazebo near the Council on Aging on Nahatan Street. The location of this annual event is ideal, as it offers plenty of parking at both the Council on Aging, the high school, and Nahatan Street. In addition, its close proximity to the tot lot play area is optimal for parents and little ones alike.

Each week, families arrived early and spread out blankets or chairs prior to the performances. Some unpacked snacks or full picnics, while others purchased pizza, drinks or ice cream from WYWC volunteers. New, opened or loose diapers were collected by a Diaper Circle to be redistributed to families in need.

The first performance of the season took place on Tuesday, July 14th, and featured T.S. I Love You, a Taylor Swift cover band. The show included friendship bracelets and a life-sized Taylor Swift cutout. On Monday, July 21st, Vanessa Trien and the Jumping Monkeys entertained the crowd with fun songs, bubbles, and lots of dancing. The series ended on Monday, July 28th with The Stacey Peasley Band. Peasley is a popular, award-winning singer that’s been performing for over 30 years. All concerts were held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and were free of charge. The concerts were sponsored by Miss Joslyn’s Dance and Dedham Savings Bank.

According to their website, the WYWC “is a non-profit, volunteer organization committed to the betterment of the Westwood community. We work together throughout the year to enrich our community by hosting events and supporting existing town programs – with all funds raised going back into the community.” WYWC hosts numerous family-friendly events throughout the year, such as the Summer Concert Series, an annual touch-a-truck event, and HarvestFest. More information about the organization and upcoming events can be founds at wywc.org.
