Needham Council on Aging (COA) members gathered at The Center at the Heights (CATH) to enjoy a pancake breakfast served by members of Avenue Church. This event is a part of an ongoing initiative that Avenue Church has started in which they serve members of the CATH at least once a month.
On the menu for this breakfast included an assortment of bagels, fruits and pastries, as well as waffles, eggs, sausages, bacon and pancakes. Avenue Church members additionally passed out beverages containing coffee, juice and water.
As COA members took their seats and mingled with one another, Avenue Church members were busy cooking up the morning’s breakfast spread. Among these members was Lead Pastor Robert Parker and his wife Lindsay Parker. When speaking with Robert about Avenue Church, he explained that they had just recently opened in the fall of this year with the hopes of bringing the Needham community closer together. With this in mind, he further indicated that they find such great joy when visiting with these seniors.
“We really just have a huge heart for senior citizens,” Robert stated, “and we just want to be a value and blessing to them and to the community. We do something like this once a month, usually it’s a hot breakfast, and just spend time with them. Next month for Christmas, we are going to make lunch for them. Today we have eight of our Church members here. As the Pastor of our church, I grew up going to a Church that had a really great connection to nursing homes in the town. So I spent a lot of time growing up as a kid in nursing homes and just loving the experience. When Avenue Church started, it became a part of our core DNA that we want to be a Church for everybody. Not just young families but for all generations. This is just one way we can better our community and bring people together.”
As this breakfast came to an end, COA members expressed how thankful they were for Avenue Church. All are hopeful that these breakfasts’ continue to happen at the CATH.
