Always a favorite to win the TVL and come out of Division II Central, Medfield High School girls varsity basketball enters the 2020-2021 season under a completely new set of circumstances. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the 2020-2021 MIAA athletic season into a condensed, 10-game, conference-only schedule with no holiday tournaments and no state tournament.

Along with the reshuffled schedule, the Medfield girls will also need to adjust to playing with a mask on at all times and rule changes such as no jump-balls and no inbounds plays from under the basket.

Even with a limited schedule, no state title to play for and having to play an updated brand of basketball to cooperate with the state-imposed guidelines, the Medfield girls look forward to the opportunity to compete together this winter. Leading the Warriors in 2020-2021 will be two captains, senior center and Babson commit Camilla Silk and junior guard Annie McCarthy.

"I think our main goals are to build up team chemistry on and off the court, work as hard as possible in each practice and game, and mainly make the most of the season every day," said Silk when asked of her team's general goals. "Obviously, a goal of ours is to win every game, but the most important part is for us to know that we worked hard together as a team to earn that success."

In terms of the rule changes and having to play with a mask on, Silk says she and her teammates are taking the proper steps in preparation by practicing with masks and integrating the rule changes into their game plans and schemes.

"Initially, it was tough adjusting to playing full-court with the masks on," said Silk. "However, everyone seems to be getting used to it, so it’s much better now. We are learning the new rules as we practice and integrating them into our strategies and game plans. Nothing is too detrimental, so we are mainly trying to focus on playing through the changes and not letting them affect us immensely."

The Warriors will open their season on January 8 at rival Westwood at 6:30 p.m.
