Last Wednesday, the MIAA COVID-19 task force voted to send its series of recommendations and plan to the MIAA Board of Directors for a potential fall high school sports season.
The plan includes sports such as field hockey, volleyball, cross country, swim and dive, soccer and golf beginning on September 14 and ending just before Thanksgiving on November 20. Other fall sports, such as football and cheerleading, would be pushed back, but would still take place from February 22 until April 25 under the proposed plan.
For winter and spring athletics, the timelines remains relatively similar to normal. Winter sports such as hockey, basketball and wrestling would take place from November 30 until February 21. Spring sports, such as baseball, softball and lacrosse would be played from April 26 until July 3.
The proposed plan did not specify whether or not fans and media would be allowed at games, and it is still unclear whether Governor Baker will even allow sports to take place this year, even if the plan is passed by the MIAA Board of Directors. Nevertheless, this is a positive step in the right direction for things to finally get back to some sort of normalcy in the realm of athletics.
