On Sunday, October 22, the Baha'i Community of Needham joined over 6 million other Baha'is across the planet to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Baha'u'llah, the founder of the Baha'i Faith. About eighty Baha'is and guests gathered at MIT's beautiful facility in Dedham, the Endicott House, for a program of music, storytelling, a talk, and socialization.

Baha'u'llah was born in 1817 in Tehran, Iran, and was exiled from Iran in 1852 to the far reaches of the Ottoman Empire, finally being imprisoned in the citadel of Akko, Israel (then, Palestine) in 1868. Baha'u'llah, through hundreds of books, epistles, and letters taught that humanity is one, and that there is only one Creator Who through the ages has sent Divine Messengers and Teachers, such as Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed, and others, to educate humanity and make it aware of its spiritual qualities and destiny. Baha'u'llah stated that He is the latest of such messengers and teachers and that the destiny of humanity today is to become aware of its oneness and to establish its unity. Baha'u'llah passed away in Bahji, just outside of Akko, in 1892, and His shrine there is a place of worship and pilgrimage for the Baha'is.

The Needham Baha'i Community is engaged in trying to implement the vision of Baha'u'llah in Needham by organizing, supporting, and sponsoring interracial and interfaith devotional and educational programs.
