On Sunday, November 5, the Wellesley Society of Artists, Inc. (WSA), along with the Wellesley Free Library, will host an artist demonstration with renowned landscape oil painter John MacDonald at the Wakelin room at the Wellesley Free Library from 1:00-4:00 p.m. The afternoon, which is free and open to the public, will begin with a reception and the presentation of the judge’s awards to WSA member artists exhibiting in the Fall 2017 Library Show. Immediately following the awards, John MacDonald will begin his demonstration in landscape oil painting.
John attended Washington University in St. Louis, where he received a BFA in 1979. Following college, he studied printmaking in Avignon, France, and then received an MA degree in drawing and painting from Purdue University. For nearly thirty years, John worked as both a freelance illustrator and landscape painter. He has won awards from Print Magazine as well as having work appear in the Society of Illustrators annual show. He now paints full time. His paintings are held in private and corporate collections throughout North America.
John is currently represented by the following galleries: The Iris Gallery, Boston, MA & Aspen, CO, Warm Springs Gallery, Charlottesville, VA, The Lily Pad Gallery, Watch Hill, RI and Milwaukee, WI, Sorelle Gallery, New Canaan, CT, and Christopher-Clark Fine Art, San Francisco, CA.
He holds workshops throughout New England and other locations, and he has held professional membership in a number of art associations, including the Creativity Coaching Association, Society of Illustrators, the Illustrators Partnership of America, the National Association of Plein Air Painters, the Graphic Artists Guild, and the Oil Painters of America.
