Hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind pottery pieces created by 20 member potters of Potters Place in Walpole will be offered for sale during the cooperative’s Annual Holiday Show & Sale. A special selection of pieces was specifically created to benefit the Ecumenical Community Food Pantry of Norwood.

The Show & Sale will take place at Potters Place, 127B Old West Street on: Friday, November 18, 6–9 p.m.; Saturday, November 19, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.; and Sunday, November 20, 10 a.m.– 4 p.m. The opening gala on Friday evening features a special Meet the Artists Reception with complimentary refreshments.

“This year’s theme - ‘A Place Called Home’ - ties in perfectly with our choice to support the Norwood Food Pantry,” says Susan McFarland, Potters Place Show & Sale Chairperson and resident of Norwood. “What is more basic to our idea of home than being able to put food on our tables to feed ourselves and our families? The Food Pantry’s mission is accomplished with a generous and respectful spirit, so we thought they would be the perfect charity to benefit from our fundraising efforts this year,” says McFarland.

Potters have been busy creating a variety of hand-built and wheel-thrown pieces at the not-for-profit studio and school. “Each member potter has her own distinct style, and that is what makes our show so popular,” says McFarland. “The motifs - including animal themes, sea-inspired pieces, floral imprints, quilting, and sculptural works - are as varied as each members’ creative ability. It’s the diverse assortment of quality, affordable pieces that brings art lovers and shoppers back each year,” she adds.

The mission of the Ecumenical Community Food Pantry of Norwood is to provide emergency food to people in need. “What a wonderful thing that the feast for the eyes these artists have created will turn into healthy, nutritious meals for their neighbors in need,” says Norwood Food Pantry Assistant Director Claudia Mackey. “All of us at the Food Pantry are very grateful that Potters Place will be featuring a special at their Holiday Show where sales will benefit the hundreds of families we serve,” adds Mackey.

The Ecumenical Community Food Pantry of Norwood opened its doors at Grace Episcopal Church on May 6, 1989, serving six clients. Since that time, the pantry has served more than 2,500 families. More than 100 volunteers purchase food, stock shelves, and sort goods by expiration dates, as well as clean, repair, and handle administrative duties at the Pantry.

Potters Place a Walpole, a not-for-profit pottery studio that has been in existence for more almost 40 years, continues its mission of sharing the pottery experience with neighboring communities through classes, workshops and special projects for adults and children. The members of the studio select one local, non-profit organization for each of its two annual shows, for which it fundraises through the sale of pottery.

For directions and more information, call (508-668-0363) or visit www.PottersPlace.Info. Free admission and parking are available, and the studio is wheelchair accessible.
