The Westwood Clergy Association is inviting the entire community to an Ash Wednesday Service on Wednesday, February 10 at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 95 Deerfield Avenue.

The Rector of St. John’s, the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Phillips said her congregation is enthusiastic about this interfaith service that begins spiritual preparation for a climax with the celebration of Easter Sunday.

Two other congregations will join the service: First Parish, led by the Rev. Christopher Dodge and First Baptist Church, headed by the Rev. Dr. Stephanie Salinas. Dr. Salinas will deliver the Ash Wednesday message.

Dr. Phillips said the ashes were gathered by burning palm fronds saved from last year’s Palm Sunday. In a departure from the usual placing of the ashes on lay foreheads by the clergy, children and adults will gather in circles to administer the ashes to those gathered for the service.
