The International Colonials, a traveling basketball team made up of players from across the world, took on the Westwood High basketball team on June 21.

Hosted by the Westwood High Boys Basketball Boosters, the game provided tons of fun as well as a unique opportunity for Westwood athletes and fans to make connections with students from many different countries, united by the game of basketball.

During halftime, a knockout tournament was hosted for Westwood’s junior and senior division basketball teams. The top three finishers in each division took home gift certificates as a prize.

The International Colonials traveling basketball team is made up of 11 basketball players from all over the world. This year, players were chosen from several countries, including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland and Spain.

Those chosen to represent their home countries in the program spend the summer traveling to basketball games all over New England. During their stay in America, team members live with host families who have volunteered to open their homes up to the traveling basketball players.

The team will be in the United States until mid-July. For more information about the International Colonials team, visit the team’s website at newenglandcolonials.net.
