WTP presenting ‘Bright Star’

Wellesley Theatre Project (WTP) is set to present "Bright Star" on August 15-16 at 7 p.m., and August 17 at 2 p.m. All performances will take place at the The Katherine L. Babson Auditorium at Wellesley High School, located at 50 Rice St, Wellesley. Tickets are priced $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, and may be purchased online at www.wellesleytheatreproject.org in advance, or at the door for $18 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.  

Inspired by a real event, and featuring the Grammy-nominated score by Steven Martin and Edie Brickell, "Bright Star" tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past – and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.

"Bright Star" features a talented cast comprised of 30 students between the ages of thirteen and eighteen. Cast members of "Bright Star" reside in Wellesley as well as neighboring communities including Brookline, Hopkinton, Natick, Needham, Newton, Waban, Watertown, and West Roxbury.

"Bright Star" production staff includes: Ben Rush, Director & Scenic Designer; John Player, Assistant Director; Eric Anderson Jr., Music Director; Julia Deter, Choreographer; SeifAllah Salotto-Cristobal, Lighting Designer; Jennie McGuinness, Costume Designer; Alexa Lambert, Stage Manager & Props Designer; Alisa Resnick, Assistant Stage Manager, Naomi Li, Production Intern; and Anna Krechevsky, Production Intern. "Bright Star" features Music, book and story by Steve Martin, and music, lyrics, and story by Edie Bricknell. "Bright Star" is produced through special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide.
