Wolverines, Hawks continue COVID winter season

Westwood and Xaverian Brothers High School varsity winter athletics continued on this past week as the Wolverines were in action against rivals Norwood and Medway, while the Hawks battled BC High and Malden Catholic.

  • Westwood boys basketball stayed unbeaten and improved to 5-0 with a 56-50 victory against Norwood on January 26. Junior guard Robert Dolabany led the way with a game-high 25 points. Senior captain and guard James McGowan also scored in double figures with 11 points. The Wolverines dropped the rematch on January 29 at Norwood, falling by a final of 68-58.
  • Westwood girls hockey earned a 2-2 tie with Medway on January 27 to stay unbeaten and improve to 3-0-1 on the year. Senior captains Hannah Blomquist and Abby Crowley supplied the scoring for the Wolverines.
  • Xaverian varsity hockey earned a 3-3 tie with Malden Catholic on January 27 to improve to 0-1-2. Max Lockwood, Braden O'Hara and Joe Crowley supplied the scoring for the Hawks. Xaverian led 3-2 with seven minutes to play, but MC's Seamus Condon scored on a three-on-two rush to tie the game with 6:32 remaining. On Sunday, the Hawks fell to BC High 5-2 to fall to 0-2-2 on the year. Joe DiMartino and Max Lockwood scored Xaverian's two goals.
  • Xaverian varsity basketball dropped to 0-3 with a pair of defeats, falling to Malden Catholic (74-56) on January 26 and to BC High (77-65) on January 28. Ty Murphy led the Hawks against BC with a team-high 20 points. Thomas Arrigal and Ryan Douglas each scored in double figures as well with 13 points.
