Needham sports news and notes

Needham High School powered through some snowy weather this past week as the Rockets took on rival Newton North in Fall I athletics.

  • Needham varsity field hockey held its annual senior night on October 28 and came away with a decisive 4-1 victory. Senior captain Kenzie Kelly led the charge in the winning effort, scoring a pair of goals.

  • Varsity golf earned a 67-111 win on October 27.

  • Boys varsity soccer earned a 3-1 victory on October 27.

  • Girls varsity soccer earned a pair of 1-1 ties against Newton North on October 27 and 29. Sunday's contest against arch rival Wellesley was postponed due to weather.

  • Boys cross-country earned a 22-33 victory against Newton North on October 28. Kyler McNatt, Thomas Flanagan and Michael Cullen led the way by placing first, second and third, respectively.

  • Girls cross-country earned a 24-33 victory against Newton North on October 28. Just like the boys, the Needham girls also took all three of the top-three placements, with Eve Melychev finishing first at 19:52 and captains Summer Eisenstadt and Michelle Mittaz placing second and third.
