Christmas Cookie Walk is back

The Christmas Cookie Walk is back in town and looking for dozens and dozens of bakers.

“We are so excited to bring this awesome event back to our community,” said Kathy Smith, Saint Edward & Saint Jude Christmas Cookie Walk Chairperson. Smith went on to explain Medfield’s First Baptist Church ran this successful and highly-anticipated fundraiser for twenty years, but their final Cookie Walk was in 2014. With a blessing from those dedicated FBC volunteers, Smith ran with plans to resume this Christmastime community favorite.

The Christmas Cookie Walk will be at St. Edward the Confessor Church in Medfield on Saturday, December 9, at 9:30 a.m.

“For years, I and many of my friends so looked forward to the Cookie Walk. It was so ‘small-town’ and so fun! The anticipation while we waited in line; the oohs and aahs as we admired and then tucked cookies from each tray carefully into our boxes. We gave those cookies as gifts or served them during the holidays in our homes -- quietly passing them off as our own,” laughed Smith. “Afterwards, our group would go to breakfast. Amidst crazy holiday schedules, we found time for an annual “Girls Morning Out.” I’m just thrilled we are bringing the Cookie Walk back and others can begin their own Cookie Walk traditions!”

As fun as it is, a Cookie Walk is a labor of love and takes a village. Smith is looking for bakers from the community and asking them to commit to baking ten dozen (or more!) of their favorite or specialty Christmas cookie.

“Work alone or work with a group of friends in your kitchen on a Sunday afternoon in November,” said Smith, going on to say many types of cookies freeze well. “The idea is to offer special Christmas cookies to those who may not have the time or talent to bake their own. And at the same time, donate to a great cause.” There are no meetings -- just baking, says Smith. And you don’t have to be a member of either church to volunteer.

The proceeds from this Cookie Walk will send some 10,000 nutritious meals to Burkina Faso, West Africa for those suffering from famine and food shortages. Meals will be assembled at Saint Edward’s at a Meal Packing Event in the Spring.
