Pacifist Memorial dedicating nine new plaques

The Pacifist Memorial, located on 2 North Main St., Sherborn, has announced the dedication of nine additional bronze plaques at the Pacifist Memorial: Muhammad Ali, Howard Zinn, Maya Angelou, Daniel Berrigan, Betsy Sawyer, Jeanette Rankin, Rachel Corrie, Corbett Bishopand Kenneth and Elise Boulding. Six of the individuals honored were recipients of the Courage of Conscience Award and visited the Abbey and Memorial over the years.

The event is co-sponsored by The Peace Abbey, Walpole Peace and Justice Group, Natick Common Street Spiritual Center and The Life Experience School.

The dedication will take place on Sunday, July 29, at 2 p.m. During this special ceremony, internationally-renowned artist Lado Goudjabidze, who created the Gandhi statue in 1994, will be rededicating the statue to the next generation of peacemakers. Local schoolchildren are invited to attend and accept from him the original miniature model of the Gandhi statue.
