The Needham High ski team wrapped up its season last week with the state championship races at Wachusett Mountain with seven Rockets representing the school.

The qualifying racers included junior Sofia Kurd, freshman Jordan Tobasky, and senior captain Libby Fleming, who helped the girls’ team finish in fourth place in the Ski East League. The boys finished in third in the league and sent sophomore Josh Arvin, senior captain Max Lobel, and freshmen Rok Gundaker and Joey Flemming (alternate) to states.

Kurd was Needham’s top finisher during the Ski East season in fourth place. Arvin was tops for the boys’ team as he finished in seventh, just edging Lobel who took eighth.

At states, Kurd took 43rd in the slalom with a time of 43.63 and 61st in the giant slalom in a time of 1:05.91. Gundaker led the Needham boys in the slalom in 77th place in a time of 44.11, while Arvin’s 84th place finish (1:02.04) was tops in the giant slalom.
