The Eastern Massachusetts Lacrosse Coaches Association (EMLCA) announced its 2018 class of boys lacrosse All-Americans this past week.

One program that is no stranger to developing All-American lacrosse talent is Medfield, and the Warriors added their latest product into the All-American ranks this week; sophomore/rising junior close-D John Schofield was named to the EMLCA Second Team. Schofield was one of just two sophomores in the entire state of Massachusetts to make the list after causing 52 turnovers and scooping up 41 groundballs this season.

“John is like a sponge - very coachable,” said Head Coach John Isaf about the sophomore All-American.

When it comes to identifying what makes Schofield such an exceptional talent and rare specimen, Isaf says the sophomore’s skill set, athletic ability, and work ethic exceed his age, and that the future is extremely bright.

“We sometimes forget how young he is because he works so hard at his craft and has such talent. Stick skills, physical tools - it’s like he’s a senior already,” said Isaf. “But he has such a high ceiling, still. Athletically, he’s still growing and developing. Lax IQ will expand and then will leadership, especially communication and really commanding the defense with his presence, voice, and trust in his teammates. That’s all coming.”

The Schofield family has held a powerful presence in the Medfield lacrosse pipeline in recent years, as John’s older brother Tom, who served as a senior co-captain this spring and became one of Medfield’s most reliable two-way midfielders, gets ready to head down to Bryant this fall to play Division I lacrosse.

As one Schofield goes, another rises into stardom, and Isaf believes that John has the ability to be one of, if not the, best defensive pole to ever come out of Medfield High School when all is said and done in June of 2020.

“We think he has the chance to be the best we’ve ever had at the defensive end, and we’ve had a number of them over the years.”
