Ferullo, a native of Dorchester, has spent most of his adult life as a resident of Medfield, during which time he has taught physics and chemistry and taken untold thousands of photographs across the globe. For the past three years, he has produced and published a wall calendar featuring exclusively shots taken in and of Medfield, with proceeds from its sale benefiting the Medfield Food Cupboard.

"I have no formal training in photography," says Ferullo, "and I rarely set out with any particular goal, but I know when I'm seeing a glimpse of the ineffable, and there's nothing like that moment. Some things are so fleeting we normally miss them, others so everyday that it takes a photo to make us appreciate their beauty. That’s what I try to record.

"I bought my first camera when my oldest was born, an all- manual Fujica STX-1 film camera for 99 bucks new with the kit lens. Eventually the light meter croaked and I learned to eyeball the amount of light - little by little, I learned.

"Inevitably I was drawn to other subject matter. I've long been fascinated with the little dramas with which life is filled on a continual basis; sometimes the drama is within an individual, evidenced by some outward sign - even lack of any expression can tell a story, it’s all about context; sometimes the drama is visual: light and dark, pattern and color, movement, stillness. These are the real tools of the craft, these are what inform the image with power; not I, not the camera."

Ferullo's photographs - 43 in total, located in two rooms on the library's first floor - may be viewed during regular library hours.
