A three-vehicle collision on 109 has left one dead and unanswered questions in its wake.

“At 1:33 PM on Tuesday, November 28th,” reads an official police press release, “the Medfield Police Department received information about a serious motor vehicle crash on Route 109 in the area of Pederzini Drive. Moments before, Medfield Police units were clearing from a motor vehicle stop in the area of Precision Automotive, also on Route 109. One of the officers observed a black Jeep SUV traveling eastbound at a very high rate of speed. This vehicle nearly collided with the Medfield police cruiser as it passed by going the opposite direction.

“The officer quickly located the crash, which had just happened, approximately one half mile from where he first observed the black Jeep. Realizing that the crash was significant and involved three cars, he requested other police units and the fire department.”

The accident brought first-responders from Medfield, Westwood, Walpole, and Millis. One of the individuals involved in the crash was Med-Flighted to Tufts Medical Center. Another individual, 31 year-old James Tobia of Falmouth, died at the scene.

The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Norfolk County DA were also on the scene to begin their investigation, which is ongoing.

The driver of the Jeep is currently unable to speak due to his medical condition; state officials have indicated that his identity and any potential criminal charges will be withheld until the investigation’s completion.
