The Dover Foundation, Dover’s own theatrical troupe, has been bringing music, comedy, and drama to Dover for nearly 70 years, all while fulfilling its original mission of bringing disparate groups of people together and raising money for scholarships.

This year will be no exception. On Thursday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., everyone’s perennial favorite, “The Pirates of Penzance,” will be performed at Lindquist Common, on the Dover-Sherborn Middle and High School campus.

“The Pirates of Penzance” is a funny and fun Gilbert and Sullivan romp with pleasures galore for young and old alike, and the public will be sure to like it for the satire, the music and dancing, or both.

Somehow new talent is found every year to complement and supplement the familiar and beloved.

This show has attracted theatre lovers from Needham to join the Foundation for the first time, and they are enjoying being a part of this community project.

Returning to do another show are Dover Foundation regulars Jerry Arnold, who plays Major General Stanley, Greg White who is the Pirate King and Karen Pierce as Ruth, along with many other familiar faces.

Geoff Herrmann, Choral/Music teacher at Dover Sherborn Middle and High School, a familiar face to many in Dover, joins the Dover Foundation cast for the first time this year and is excited to be performing with his wife Lisa in the show.

The two met when they performed together in the opera program at UMass Amherst and are enjoying performing together again in “The Pirates of Penzance.”

Part of the great tradition of the Dover Foundation is bringing together families to work in these shows and they are pleased to see many other families involved this year alongside Geoff and Lisa.

Amongst those from Dover are Jane Taylor and her daughter Izzy. Jane and Izzy performed together in the 2014 Dover Foundation production of “Oliver” and Izzy most recently played ‘Mrs Brill’ in the Dover Sherborn Middle School production of ‘Mary Poppins’, receiving many accolades for her performance in this show.
There are other members of the “Mary Poppins” family joining the Dover Foundation in “The Pirates of Penzance:” Amanda Dye, (Mary Poppins), Jack Bowen (Bert) and of course Geoff Hermann who joined the chimney sweeps.

Their performances in Mary Poppins were wonderful and we’re sure you’ll enjoy them in this show too.

The Dover Foundation’s show, ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ is a great introduction for those who are new to their shows or for those who love Gilbert and Sullivan.

Tickets are available at www.thedoverfoundation.com.

Show dates May 5, 6, 7, at 7.30 p.m., with a matinee on Saturday 7 at 2 p.m.

The performances will be at Lindquist Common on the Dover-Sherborn Middle and High School Campus, 9 Junction St in Dover. Lindquist Common is beside the main parking lot for the high school.
