Children and their parents headed to the Sherborn Community Center for a family-friendly sing-along by musician Ed Morgan. With entertainment and enthusiasm in mind, the September 13 concert kept kids dancing and singing along to Morgan’s captivating tunes.

Once the children climbed up the stairs of the Community Center, Morgan invited them to sit on the magic carpet on the floor in front of him. He then kicked off the concert with an upbeat rendition of “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” on the guitar. Morgan took suggestions from the children, too, and performed the highly requested “Wheels on the Bus,” sending two young boys, Owen and Simon, racing around the room as Morgan played.

Morgan also brought a kazoo, which he played during his performance of “Mr. Golden Sun,” which sent the children into giggles. However, the sound of the kazoo wasn’t the only thing the children were laughing at. Morgan brought some of his own silliness to the concert and unleashed it when one of the children requested “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”

He began the song perfectly, but threw the children for a loop when he sang: “Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you ate for breakfast.” Luckily, the children knew the words to the song by heart and were able to help Morgan sing them while he strummed on the guitar.

Three-year-old Aoife shyly requested “The Lonely Goatherd” from “The Sound of Music,” but welcomed Ed Morgan’s take on Julie Andrews’ “Do-Re-Mi” instead. The parents and children joined hands and made a circle for the requested “Ring Around the Rosie,” and the parents participated in the “Hokie Pokie,” too.

One of Morgan’s silliest songs ended up being “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” during which he improvised on the lyrics and sang, “Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is like a bowl of spaghetti.” The kids quickly realized the lyrics weren’t quite right, but Morgan teased, “What? Life isn’t like a bowl of spaghetti?” He tried again and sang, “If you see a crocodile, don’t forget to scream” to the correct tune before letting out a shriek. The children once again shouted out that the lyrics weren’t right, and Morgan tried once more, but instead sang about ice cream. Finally, the children joined in and sang the song’s more traditional lyrics.

Morgan performed a few more classic children’s songs, like “Five Little Ducks,” “Five Little Monkeys,” and “Old MacDonald Had a Farm,” but he also played lesser-known songs, including one that had the children “shaking the sillies out.”

But as all things must come to an end, the concert had to wrap up, too. Although the children could have listened to Morgan’s music all day long, they said goodbye as Morgan sang: “The more we get together, the happier we’ll be.”
