A record number of teams from Dover-Sherborn competed on Saturday, March 12 in a Regional Destination Imagination (DI) competition. More than 90 students made up 18 teams, and they all took to the stage in Wayland to showcase their hard work and ingenuity.

At the competition in Wayland, Dover-Sherborn had an impressive showing, as all 18 teams had a great competition day with some stellar results. All teams did well and some received extra recognition for their efforts with seven teams placing in the top three in their respective categories.

Teams placing first will advance to the State Competition on Saturday, March 26 at WPI in Worcester. Each school in Dover-Sherborn will be represented at the state level for the first time in the program’s history.

Some of the top finishers were the Elite Exploding Blueberries, the Blue Mustaches and the DI Devils, each of whom represent the Pine Hill School; the Volcanic Explosions, who represented the Chickering School; and Transportation Nation, the Supersonic 7 and the Three Amigos, who all represented Dover-Sherborn Middle School.

The Dover-Sherborn DI program has grown tremendously in the last six years. It was piloted in 2010 with just one team of five students. The program has since expanded and is stronger than ever with teams from the D-S Middle, Chickering Elementary and Pine Hill Elementary schools all participating.

The Dover-Sherborn DI program is the largest in their region, which includes teams from larger towns such as Newton, Wellesley and Natick. They have had teams advance to the Global competition level with one of last year’s teams placing seventh in the world in their respective challenge.
